Overview of ATS

The American Tract Society was instituted in 1825 and traces its lineage back through the New York Tract Society (1812) and the New England Tract Society (1814) to the Religious Tract Society of London, begun in 1799.

As one of the earliest religious publishing bodies in the "new world," ATS has had a rich heritage in the history of the United States.

As its objective, the chief purpose for which the Society stands is the proclamation of the One who is the center of the Word of God--Jesus Christ. Its main function is to reach the world with the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Society is a nonprofit, nonsectarian, evangelical organization providing the best possible in Christian tracts and related materials at prices that are partially underwritten by contributions. This enables us to supply individuals, churches, and organizations with quality materials at reasonable prices in keeping with our nonprofit status.

At the same time, contributions make it possible to supply grants of tracts free of charge to meet special opportunities, and to supply materials internationally in several languages.

As ATS continues to move forward with vigor and imagination, we invite interested Christians to make use of ATS products and services and to join us in our ministry.

The mission of the American Tract Society is to...

• produce attention-arresting tools for evangelism
• prepare and encourage Christians to present the gospel
• point Christians to discipleship in a local church

The Mission Statement represents a restatement and recommitment to the Society's original statement of purpose (May 11, 1825) which read, "To diffuse a knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ as the Redeemer of sinners and to promote the interests of vital godliness and sound morality..."

2. To seek excellence in the strategic development, distribution, and training in the worldwide use of ATS resources.
3. To establish partnership with other believers, churches, and groups that can help fulfill the vision God has given us.
4. To serve whenever possible as an encourager and enabler to those who are directly sharing the gospel.
5. To depend on the Lord to provide all the resources necessary to further our vision, and to be accountable for our faithfulness as stewards.
6. To prepare future generations to carry our vision forward until the Lord brings this work to completion.

Statement of Faith

We believe:

• The Bible is the only inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God.

• That there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

• In the deity of Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

• That the salvation of lost mankind is based solely on the finished work of Christ through regeneration by the Holy Spirit.

• In the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.

• In the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

• The chief purpose of the Society is to reach the world with the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe this to be the obligation of every Christian.
